FanDuel's Growth Story
After meeting at a networking event in 2007, the five co-founders behind FanDuel created Hubdub.com, a web-based prediction market game, which although popular, was difficult to monetize. During SXSW 2009 in an Austin backyard, the team shifted focus to the site’s most popular topic – sports – identifying a gap in the sports entertainment market for daily fantasy sports. In 2009, FanDuel was born, creating a new way for fans to play fantasy sports, where winners can have success on any given day, not just at the end of the season.
Daily fantasy has grown into a multibillion-dollar industry and FanDuel had a breakout year in 2014. The company crossed the million active paying users mark and has grown from five co-founders to a team of 450 employees across five offices on both sides of the Atlantic.
