Glassdoor's Growth Story
Glassdoor co-founders, Robert Hohman, Rich Barton and Tim Besse, recognized the need for greater workplace transparency, as there was an imbalance of information in the employment industry. Prior to Glassdoor’s launch in 2008, employers held the key to critical job-related information, whereas job seekers were often left in the dark.
To shift this paradigm, Glassdoor turned to employees and provided a platform in which they could anonymously share information and opinions on what it was really like to work at specific employers, from compensation details to company culture to career opportunities. At launch, Glassdoor held 3,000 company reviews, ratings and salaries on just 250 companies.
Today¹, Glassdoor has more than 550 employees in offices throughout the U.S. and western Europe. The company now offers the latest job listings, paired with more than 10 million workplace insights for 445,000 companies. Glassdoor is quickly becoming a leading recruiting and employer branding channel, partnering with more than 3,000 employers, including 36% of the Fortune 500 companies.
